The Voice of People With Breast Cancer

ACTION

Advocacy

Advocacy is working to provide support for a cause, policy, or action. Advocacy is also the pursuit of influencing outcomes. Everyone has the ability to advocate on his or her own behalf or on behalf of others. We advocate because we see a perceived inequality or imbalance. When we advocate, we are asking for change.

Through CBCN’s advocacy program, we connect with decision makers, industry stakeholders, and the public to help raise awareness around the needs of those affected by breast cancer and to inform policies that will improve the quality of life for patients and survivors.

Some of our advocacy initiatives include:

  • liaising with provincial and federal decision-makers regularly to ensure that the needs and concerns of Canadians affected by breast cancer are being addressed
  • engaging media to raise awareness around priority advocacy issues
  • providing patient navigation for individual metastatic breast cancer patients who are experiencing challenges accessing new breast cancer drugs in their province
  • connecting with other patient groups and partner organizations to collaborate on similar advocacy issues
  • publishing research reports calling for action and awareness around priority issues. To view our recent reports, please click here.
